For each search query fired, the search engines have a simple ultimate goal; “To find out the exact information user is looking for!” The obsessions like indexing algorithms, page ranks, tags, and meta information, all are the various techniques used for this purpose only.
Initially, search engines gave good weight to meta tags, assuming that they speak the truth about the page. A lot of good people followed it. But some people used it for their good. They produced fake meta-information about pages with no valuable information but advertisements. So, search engines took one step forward and started punishing such people.
Then probably came page ranks, which is vote theory. If you are good then people will link you. This has grown the value of backlinks. Afterward, this simple vote theory has become inadequate, because people started reciprocal links, smart! Also, people buy links in bulk. And many of such link frauds! Now search engines understand much of these and try to punish guilty by sending traffic to quality pages.

So, what to do now
Just don’t tweak or fake to search engines. Now or then they will found it out. Instead, help it with some techniques. Here are some of them.
I know, you probably hit me hard for this point but still, it is true and it works. I can’t resist entering it here. “Content always is King”. Write real quality and genuine articles.
In meta information, write Real information, Real meta description, and real tags which are actually used on the page.
Keep meta description tag 170 characters long. Enter up to 8 meta tags.
Use no index for possible duplicate content like archive pages, tag pages, etc.
Don’t do reciprocal linking or link exchange.
Keep your pages error-free and validated.
Try to keep your pages light by using well-optimized templates, lighter images, and fewer scripts on pages.
Don’t surprise your reader with pop-ups. Instead, surprise them with information that is really valuable and easy to understand.
Don’t use hidden text on pages.
Don’t copy material from other web pages. This thing can be penalized twice. Once by search engine and second by the owner of the material.
Create a good sitemap and submit it to search engines.
Use programs like Google Webmaster’s Tool, Yahoo, and Bing for better communication with search engines.
If you are buying backlinks from other sites, don’t buy them in bulk. Keep it gradual and steady.
You are a blogger, what you own is a blog, not a steady website. Your blog must be always flooding with fresh content. Choose your frequency and stick to it. Google bots love consistent blogs. Like your readers, they too come for new articles, once they realize your frequency.
Remember somebody’s quote “SEO is Marathon, not Sprint”.
These are some of the ways for helping search engines. I guess, you already knew some of them before and even more of them. If you enjoyed reading this article/agree/disagree, please leave a comment or share it with your blogger friends, at your favorite social bookmarking site.
